Olney Honey |
About usI'm Bob North, and I'm a bee-keeper in my spare time. I'm lucky enough to work from home in my 'day job', so I can pop out to work the bees from time to time without it causing too many problems. It's a great antidote to the modern world. I first got interested in beekeeping a few years ago when I picked up a book about it whilst on holiday. After going on a local beekeeping course, getting stung a few times, and getting to grips with the basics I got my first hive, and one thing led to another. I now have half a dozen hives which local farmers and landowners kindly let me put on their field margins, orchards and such. If you would like a hive or two on your land in exchange for a few jars of honey let me know, I'm always on the lookout for the perfect site! This isn't a commercially-driven venture - just an interesting hobby - but it creates far more honey than we can consume, which is why we sell the surplus. It would be nice to think I could turn a profit from this, but realistically it's going to be quite a few years before the honey sales pay for all the equipment! At the moment we are only producing honey, but there are lots more 'products of the hive' which we may look at getting into as time permits - from drinks like mead to items such as beeswax polishes and candles.
